Meet Sarah

I believe that to be a good editor, you have to be a good reader. I am most comfortable when I have a book in hand, and I always have been - I was that kid who constantly had her nose in a book and her head in a story. Not much has changed in that respect, but what keeps me reading way past my bedtime these days is romance. I used to steal my mom’s Harlequins when I was younger (sorry, Mom) and have had a deep and abiding love for Jane Austen since I was a teenager, so it’s probably no surprise that I’m a sucker for great chemistry and happily ever afters.

Chemistry is not only vital between characters, it’s necessary between an author and an editor. Writing is such a solitary pursuit and stepping out of your own head and trusting a stranger with your whole manuscript is a big deal, especially if you’re writing romance where vulnerability and emotional nakedness (…and other kinds of nakedness, sometimes!) are so important. I take the time to get to know you before we jump into the editing process, and you can get to know me so you feel comfortable putting your work in my hands. I’ll provide thoughtful, honest feedback that respects your hard work while giving you the necessary critique to push further to create a final product that you can be proud of.

I have a formal background in understanding how writers put stories together (I have an M.A. in English from the University of Toronto), but I also have a real passion for editing romance. My editing specialties include historical romance, contemporary romance, rom-coms, and Jane Austen-inspired fiction (JAFF), but above all, I'm into any story that hooks me with clever, interesting plot lines and emotionally resonant characters. If this sounds like your work, I’d love to connect with you and find out more about your writing!
