Editorial Values
Building strong relationships
Editing is an inherently collaborative process. I work closely with you to understand your vision and your voice so that the edits I suggest make sense within the context of the story and feel like a natural part of the manuscript. We’re always on the same page.
Improving Craft
It is my goal that after working with me, you not only have a great story ready to go, but that I’ve given you tools and knowledge during the editing process to apply to your next project so you can develop your craft further and grow as an author.
Maintaining editorial integrity
My duty of care is to the story. I will protect the integrity of your story by maintaining your voice and ensuring that your story is structurally sound. Every scene will do work as part of the larger narrative. This may mean substantial cuts or additional sections or reworking and reordering parts, but in the end, it will still be your story—one you can be proud of.
Cultivating trust
Trust in your reader and in your own abilities is essential for any author. I want you to have the confidence in yourself to believe that you’re speaking to the reader in a way that they will understand, without doubting your own abilities to do so. Likewise, I want you to be able to trust me as your editor to do the very best by your story and to give an honest assessment of your work. Trust in yourself, in your work, and in your editor provides a supportive framework from which you can build your craft.
