This is a very different take on Pride and Prejudice. Darcy is a barrister's son who's gone into the army and is fighting in the Peninsular Wars when he gets the news: his great-uncle has died and has, to his surprise, left him Pemberley and most of his fortune.
Darcy returns home with his cousin and needs to learn about running an estate so he turns to his former general Bennet, who's now retired to Longbourn with his five daughters. Darcy is immediately attracted to Elizabeth and he of course is an awkward ass around her. They do become friends and maybe something more, but when mysterious threats begin happening around Longbourn, they need to work together to keep each other safe.
I've worked with Melanie for years now, and this is one of her best books yet! She always writes great chemistry between Darcy and Elizabeth, and she knows how to spin a story! It's available everywhere now.
